One message to a group of 400 is 400 texts. That's the whole math. A school that sends three notices a day on school days sends about 26,000 texts a month, which is why every text after the first 5,000 of a month costs a penny, not 1.5¢.
Announcements only, so parents' replies go to the office and not to 400 phones. And a daily limit you set, so one busy day can't run past what you planned.
A picture goes out as a picture message (MMS) at 4¢ a person instead of 1.5¢. Off by default; the group's admin turns it on. Members on the web chat see pictures free.
